Adam's strict upbringing may have contributed to his lack of social skills. He has few friends and chooses to isolate himself from school activities and even his family. Because of his interest in medicine as well as his smarts, he got a job at the local pharmacy. Leaving the pharmacy one night, he is startled and shaken when he is violently captured.
